At the North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park sits the mountain hamlet of Gardiner, Montana Gardiner, the largest community south of Livingston, is a strategic location for restaurants, lodging and commerce serving the multitude of park visitors and area residents.The North Entrance is the original and the only year-round entrance to Yellowstone, the first national park in the United States.
Gardiner is a tough little frontier community with the Yellowstone River running through the middle of the town. Founded in 1880 Gardiner has served miners in the gold rush, the soldiers who operated Yellowstone Park in the early days and millions of tourists visiting the park over many years.
The 2000 census counted 851 Gardiner residents, many of whom are park employees. Gardiner has churches, schools K-12, various stores and services. The closest medical clinic is at Mammoth Hot Springs just a few miles inside Yellowstone Park.
Gardiner has unique opportunities as a home base. It is the next door neighbor to amazing scenery and wildlife in Yellowstone Park and the surrounding national forest areas. Business prospects abound for serving the tourist trade. Housing can vary from a turn-of-the-century home in town to a rustic cabin on a steep hillside.Gardiner is one of the few Montana towns where you’ll still see elk walking down the street!
