ENNIS , MONTANA
Immediately following the discovery of gold in 1863 at Alder Gulch, William Ennis homesteaded a site along the Madison River which became the town of Ennis . Mr. Ennis started a store and later became the first postmaster of Ennis.
Ennis is the hub of the Madison Valley. This valley edged by the Madison Range and the Tobacco Root Mountains > is an area where the farmers and ranchers raise cattle as well as hay and grain. Located 45 miles southwest of Bozeman, Ennis, with around 1,000 inhabitants, has schools K-12, churches, a library, hospital, medical clinic and various shops and service businesses.
The Madison River is a renowned fly-fishing destination and Ennis Lake> offers additional recreation opportunities. The lore of the Old West – cowboys, Indians, and gold – abounds in the Madison Valley and Ennis. Enjoy the annual rodeo or experience the atmosphere of the 1890s Gold Rush days in nearby Virginia City and Nevada City>. Ennis has a variety of seasonal events including an art festival, a fly-fishing festival and wild game cook-off.
